Overview

The Central Department of Education Tribhuvan University (CDED TU) is located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. It is the oldest and most prestigious of the 38 central departments under Tribhuvan University (TU). The Department operates under the Faculty of Education and comprises 16 departments that play essential roles in academic and administrative functions.

Miscellaneous Educational Proposals

Each central Department of Education completes a specialized study area and offers various educational opportunities. These departments cover curriculum development, economics education, education planning, English language education, foundations of education, geography education, health education, history education, mathematics education, Nepali language education, political science education, science education, special needs education, instructional technology, student welfare and examination, and teaching practice.

Rich in human resources and student enrollment

The Central Department of Education prides many faculty members and students. Its 184 staff members, including 132 teachers and 52 non-academic staff, ensure a conducive learning environment. In addition, 30 part-time and daily wage employees contribute to the smooth functioning of the Department.

Currently, the Department accommodates 3,554 students from different parts of the country, representing various student bodies. In addition, students working on their thesis are closely related to the Department, promoting an environment of research and academic excellence.

A leading central department

As a central department, each Department within the Central Department of Education operates autonomously, maintaining the highest standards in teaching, research, curriculum design, and disciplinary matters. The Research Management Cell (RMC), affiliated with the Central Department, publishes journals and bulletins and organizes engaging programs to facilitate academic growth and intellectual discussions.

Innovation and Adaptation

The Central Department of Education constantly strives to meet the evolving demands of students, parents, society, and the global landscape. Realizing the importance of technology, departments are introducing new programs and courses. For example, they offer computer science courses in mathematics education at the postgraduate level and GIS courses in the Department of Geography.

Adopting the modern educational system, the Department has implemented the semester system at the postgraduate level. In addition, plans are underway to conduct postgraduate programs at ICTE and establish well-equipped resource centers. To support distance education students, online courses in English language education and mathematics education will be started. The Department uses multimedia projectors and computers to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Vision:

The vision of the Central Department of Education is to establish a center of excellence in teacher education and educational research in Nepal. The Department aims to produce highly skilled professionals who can contribute to the transformation of the country and the development of education policy, planning, and pedagogy. In addition, the Department strives to promote international educational cooperation and build networks with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. It is committed to providing support and opportunities to students from rural areas and marginalized groups through scholarships and the support they need to pursue their master's program.

Mission:

The mission of the Central Department of Education is to serve the country by preparing trained and skilled teachers for different levels of education. It aims to produce educational researchers, planners, curriculum designers, and managers who can contribute to advancing the education sector.  As the only Department among the 14 different departments and 36 central departments of Tribhuvan University, the Department takes pride in its unique identity and structure.

Geographical Location:

The Central Department of Education (CDED) is located in Kirtipur, which provides a calm and conducive environment for educational activities. The CEDA office near Bag Bhairav Temple shares its border with the Department of Management in the north, the Central Population Studies Department in the east, the CNAS in the south, and the CNAS in the west.
