Overview
Far Western University (FWU) was established in 2010 by the Act of Parliament as a government-funded national university to function as a prime academic institution in the country in terms of academic excellence, research-based education, community engagement, and partnership.
The central office of the university is located at Bhimdatta Municipality of Kanchanpur district, Far West Province, Nepal. The strategic location of the University Central Campus and its constituent campuses at the Far West Province gives access to local people to higher education and provides an opportunity for the overall development of the region.
FWU (Sudurpaschim University) has been fulfilling its responsibility of making higher education accessible to the people of this region through its constituent campuses in the nine districts of Far West Province. Adopting the principle of the “right to education and accessibility of higher education to deserving students,” Far Western University has been delivering diverse educational programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, through six faculties including Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, Management, Science and Technology, Engineering, and Agriculture. The university follows a semester academic calendar. The undergraduate courses and graduate courses of the university are of four-year duration and two-year duration respectively. The university has started MPhil and Ph.D. research degrees in February 2021.
Far Western University is engaged in introducing new curricula, revisiting pedagogy, strengthening the existing academic programs, diversifying bachelor’s degree programs, and introducing course-based MPhil and Ph.D. degrees. To move forward in achieving academic excellence and becoming one of the best institutions in the nation, a comprehensive strategic document has been prepared to support the mission and vision of the university.
