School of Forestry and Natural Resource Management at the Institute of Forestry (IOF) in Kathmandu, Established in 2017, dedicated to promoting excellence in education and research in the field of forestry and natural resource management.

Master's Programs

We offer a range of Master's programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective conservation and sustainable management of our natural resources. These programs include:

  • MSc in Wildlife Management and Biodiversity Conservation
  • MSc in Mountain Environment and Development Studies
  • MSc in Forestry

Faculty Research and Development

Our esteemed faculty members are actively engaged in research and development activities in collaboration with national and international institutions and agencies. Their research focuses on crucial areas such as agricultural commodity production, post-harvest technology, food product preservation, biodiversity conservation, and local innovation through participatory approaches. By addressing these issues, we aim to enhance the sustainable livelihood systems of farming communities in Nepal.

Courses Offered:

  1. MSc in Wildlife Management and Biodiversity Conservation This program focuses on equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and conserve wildlife and biodiversity effectively. Students will learn about wildlife ecology, habitat management, conservation strategies, and the sustainable use of natural resources. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical fieldwork, students will develop the expertise required to address the complex challenges facing wildlife and biodiversity conservation. With a limited intake of 20 seats, this program ensures a focused and interactive learning environment.

  2. MSc Mountain Environment and Development Studies The MSc in Mountain Environment and Development Studies program is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the unique environmental and socio-economic aspects of mountain regions. Students will explore topics such as mountain ecosystems, climate change adaptation, sustainable development, and natural resource management in mountainous areas. Through field visits and research projects, students will gain practical insights into the complexities of mountain environments and develop innovative approaches for their sustainable development. With only 20 seats available, this program offers personalized attention and opportunities for collaborative learning.

  3. MSc in Forestry The MSc in Forestry program aims to develop professionals with comprehensive knowledge and skills in forest management, conservation, and sustainable forestry practices. Students will study subjects such as forest ecology, silviculture, forest economics, forest policy, and forest inventory techniques. Through a combination of classroom lectures, practical exercises, and fieldwork, students will learn to manage forests for multiple objectives, including timber production, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem services. With a focus on experiential learning, this program equips students to address the complex challenges facing the forestry sector.
