Overview
Chankheli Rural Municipality (चंखेली गाउँपालिका) was established in 2017 (2073 BS) as a local government of Nepal. The headquarters of the Chankheli Gaunpalika is located in Srimastha, Humla district, Karnali Province of Nepal. Rural Municipality is known as Gaunpalika in the Nepali Language.
Chankheli Gaunpalika is surrounded by Mugu district on the East and Kharpunath Rural Municipality and Sarkegad Rural Municipality on the West, China on the North, and Mugu district on the South. The total area of the Chankheli Rural Municipality is 1310.41 square kilometers (505.95 sq mi) and the total population of the rural municipality according to 2011 (2068 BS) Nepal census is 5,557 individual. The density of this rural municipality is 4.2/km2 (11/sq mi). This Rural municipality is divided into 8 wards.
Srimastha, Mimi, Dami and Melchham Village development committees (VDCs) were incorporated to form Chankheli Gaunpalika, This rural municipality came into existence on 10 March 2017 (Falgun 27, 2073 BS), fulfilling the requirement of the Constitution of Nepal 2015 (2072 BS). Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration replaced all old VDCs and Municipalities into 753 new local level bodies.
