Overview
The Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU)is a vital faculty within Agriculture and Forestry University considering the faculty strength, staff number as well as the number of students enrolled both in undergraduate and post graduate programs. Its excellence in teaching, research, and outreach activities in agriculture has been recognized both at the national and international levels.
Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) has 9 departments and 2 centers consisting of 52 highly qualified faculty members involved in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses with the support of a team of 67 administrative and technical staff members. Recently, this faculty has expanded its undergraduate program (B.Sc.Ag.) through the College of Natural Resources Management, Puranchaur in Kaski.
It encourages, facilitates, and supports faculty members and students for research and scholarly activities relevant to the needs of concerned stakeholders. The FOA fosters student self-development, commitment, and responsibility for the welfare of Nepalese society by imparting knowledge regarding modernization and commercialization of the agriculture sector in a sustainable manner.
This faculty has started an undergraduate program as B.Sc.Ag. (4 years) since 2069/70 BS at Rampur and since 2072/73 BS at Puranchaur in Kaski. At present, more than 580 undergraduate students are studying B.Sc.Ag. at Rampur and 50 undergraduates at Puranchaur. This faculty has started its post-graduate (M.Sc.Ag. and Ph.D.) program in 2070/71 during which 75 students were enrolled in the M.Sc.Ag. program in 8 departments and the number of students enrolled in 2071/72 and 2072/73 were 93 and 83 respectively in the PG programs including the PG program of Biotechnology Center and Center for Development Studies and Rural Sociology.
Besides the production of quality agriculture manpower, this faculty is fully committed to the research and extension activity of our University. In this context, FOA is willing to provide agriculture services to the communities on the basis of mutual cooperation by establishing Science Centers in different agro-ecological zones of the country. Further, our competent faculty members are conducting various research projects in collaboration with different national and international organizations.
Agriculture faculty members have good working relationships with other stakeholders of agriculture including the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC), National Agriculture Research and Development Fund (NARDF), LiBIRD, USAID/AVRDC, Winrock International, etc. We are also happy to provide space and accommodation to conduct workshops/seminars and related research activities by the participating faculty members from other countries. Further, FOA has linked up with the well-reputed university abroad for capacity building, enhancing research and laboratory capacity, faculty and student research, etc.
