For the first time, the School of Mathematical Sciences at Tribhuvan University (SMSTU) is launching the Bachelor in Mathematical Sciences (BMathSc) program. This full-time program spans eight semesters over four years and includes compulsory foundational courses in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Information Technology. There are also elective courses and courses covering Technical Writing, Communication English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, and Natural Sciences.

In today's world, computational simulations and data analysis are crucial across various industries. The internet provides vast quantities of data for enterprises, necessitating experts who can build and evaluate mathematical models, explore them computationally, and analyze enormous amounts of data. This interdisciplinary program addresses the need for human resources with analytical ability, data processing capability, and fast computing efficiency.

  • Total Credit Hours: At least 120 credit hours
  • Number of Courses: Five courses each in the first four semesters; variable in the remaining semesters
  • Nature of Courses: Theoretical and Practical
  • Marking: 60% Semester Exam, 40% Internal Assessment (including writing tests, oral tests, seminars, practicals, projects, fieldwork, etc.). Students must secure at least 40% in each semester exam and internal assessment to complete the course.

The first two years provide a foundation in a broad range of areas, including Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science.

Eligibility

Applicants must have:

  • Passed Grade 12 or equivalent level examination with 100 marks in Mathematics or Business Mathematics from any stream (Science, Management, Humanities, Education) and secured a Grade C in each subject or at least second division.
  • Passed A level with Mathematics of 100 full marks and secured at least a D grade.
  • Passed any subjects from CTEVT Diploma with Mathematics of 100 marks and secured at least second division.
  • If the applicant has passed from international academic institutions, they should submit an equivalent certificate from the Curriculum Development Center, Sanothimi.

The Bachelor in Mathematical Sciences is a full-time program spanning four years, divided into eight semesters. The curriculum includes foundational courses in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and IT, alongside elective courses. The program is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through classroom instruction, practical sessions, projects, seminars, internships, and a thesis.
