In the 29th Convocation Ceremony (Second Phase) of Kathmandu University (KU), a total of 2,314 students from various faculties will be conferred degrees. The university, during a press conference held on Wednesday, announced that students from the School of Arts, Science, Education, Engineering, Management, and Medical Sciences will receive their degrees in the ceremony scheduled for 30 August 2024, Friday.
Details of the Graduating Students
According to the university’s spokesperson, Ekkumaya Pun, the degrees will be conferred as follows:
- PhD, DM, and MCH Levels: 11 students
- MPhil Level: 32 students
- Master's Level: 456 students
- Bachelor's Level: 1,815 students
Spokesperson Pun further elaborated that among the graduates:
- School of Arts: 70 students
- School of Education: 71 students
- School of Engineering: 364 students
- School of Management: 97 students
- School of Medical Sciences: 1,563 students
- School of Science: 149 students
Among the total graduates, 242 students are international, representing 19 countries including the USA, Mexico, Denmark, China, Bhutan, Israel, Germany, Singapore, Argentina, Palestine, and Sudan. The university reported that 10% of the graduating students are from foreign countries.
Notable Firsts in the Convocation
This year marks a first in the university's history for the graduation of students from the Master of Business and Economics program (11 students) and the Bachelor in Hospitality Management program (23 students) under the School of Management. Additionally, five students will graduate from the Doctor of Medicine in General Practice and Emergency Medicine program under the School of Medical Sciences.
Cumulative Graduation Statistics
As of the second phase of the 29th Convocation, Kathmandu University has awarded degrees to a total of 45,437 students. Of these, 5,467 students (12%) are international, representing 57 countries.

During the ceremony, the following students will be awarded gold medals:
- Chancellor's Gold Medal: Mizla Chitrakar
- Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal: Mukesh Tiwari
- Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal (MBBS): Swikrit Dahal
- Nhucherattan Tuladhar Gold Medal: Rasmita Poudel
- Ramesh Prasad Singh Gold Medal: Arjun Das
- Maheshnath Parajuli Gold Medal: Ranisha Poudel
University Initiatives
During the press conference, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa highlighted that the university has introduced new courses in response to the changing times to attract more students. He also mentioned the university’s efforts to internationalize its programs to elevate KU’s standing on the global stage.
Registrar Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagley noted the growing participation of international students in various programs initiated by the university.
