The Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens celebrate National Women's Rights Day on the 16th of Jestha every year. The day has been celebrated as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on 6th Jestha 2076.
The program is attended by women chiefs and deputy chiefs from across the country, women chiefs and deputy chiefs of village municipalities, women chiefs and deputy chiefs of all 77 district coordination committees, and one female member.
President Vidya Devi Bhandari has said that all the organs and political parties of the state should pay special attention to implementing the constitutional provision of one-third participation of women.
Sending a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 4th National Women's Rights Day 2079 BS, President Bhandari said that the participation of women has been increasing since the constitutional, legal, and structural arrangements were made as a result of various movements for gender equality.
Her message states that both men and women have an active role to play in ensuring equal, meaningful, and dignified participation of women in all spheres of national life.
She called for the collective mobilization of all to achieve national prosperity including social justice through economic empowerment by increasing women's participation in policymaking and the decision-making process.
President Bhandari also mentioned the need for effective implementation of the law against social discrimination against women in Sande Shama.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that women empowerment is a common issue and work should be done in a coordinated manner for the upliftment of women.
Giving a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 4th National Women's Rights Day, she said that the government has been working with a zero-tolerance policy to eradicate the incidents of gender discrimination and violence.
Prime Minister Deuba has said that it is necessary to ensure the gender, social, economic, and political rights of women through effective implementation of various legal provisions and to mainstream women in the overall aspect of development.
PM Deuba's message states that the government is committed to the upliftment and development of women by controlling all forms of discrimination against women. Prime Minister Deuba said that the active and meaningful participation of men and women in sustainable development was invaluable.
The government had decided to celebrate the 16th of Jestha every year as the National Women's Rights Day in celebration of the four achievements in the field of women's rights. Citizenship by name, ensuring the participation of at least one-third of women in all structures of the state, repeal of discriminatory laws, and ending violence against women are considered the four main achievements.
