9th Poultry Day being Celebrated with Various Programs

Ninth Poultry Day will be celebrated this year by organizing various programs with the objective of promoting poultry business which contributes 4 percent to the GDP. In 2070, the government declared Poush 17th as Poultry Day.

Various organizations related to poultry have started celebrating the day by organizing various programs this year. The private sector is conducting programs in collaboration with the federal and provincial governments. Nepal Egg Producers Association is celebrating the ninth Poultry Day in Dhangadhi on Saturday. According to the Central Chairman of the Association, Shivaram KC, an interactive program is being conducted with the participation of the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Association and the Ministry of Agriculture of Sudurpashchim Pradesh and the private sector.

Earlier, the association has been conducting programs in Chitwan five times and in other years alternately in Butwal, Jhapa, Surkhet and this year in Dhangadhi. Binod Pokhrel, executive director of Daunne Group, which has been producing and collecting a large number of eggs in Nepal, said that the program would motivate people to enter the profession by showing the importance of eggs and meat.

Poultry-related organizations said that the program has started as a festival. Nepal Poultry Entrepreneurs Forum has started various programs in connection with the day from Wednesday. According to the chairman of the forum Rajendra Lamichhane, the students of Bishwaprakash Mavic in Mangalpur were given eggs on the first day and were informed about its importance.

Eggs have been distributed to patients at Bharatpur Hospital and BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital today. Eggs will be distributed at Ratnanagar Bakulahar Hospital and Old Age Home on Friday and a program on the importance of eggs is being held at a school.

An interaction program is being organized on the day of Poultry Day with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Bagmati. According to Madan Pokhrel, a member of the forum, four working papers are being presented on behalf of government policy and poultry, importance of eggs and meat from allopathic doctors, University of Agriculture and Forest Sciences and private sector. Pokhrel informed that various programs have been started every year taking this day as a special occasion. The government has declared Poultry Day at the request of the private sector.
