Event Overview

The Kathmandu University School of Management's Information System Club (KUSOM ISC) recently wrapped up a successful IS Hackathon, a 36-hour intensive event from June 14 to 16, part of the IS FAIR 2024. The event focused on developing efficient and effective business and economic solutions and saw enthusiastic participation from 27 teams across Nepal.

Leadership and Goals

Under the leadership of Coordinator Prarabda Singh Mahat and Vice Coordinator Ritika Parajuli, KUSOM ISC aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The club fosters innovation and technological advancement among students, propelling Nepal’s digital transformation by addressing issues in green technology, circular economy, production efficiency, supply chain management, finance, commerce, and unemployment.

    • Technology: LoRa (Long Range) and Arduino IoT Cloud
    • Highlights: Innovative IoT solution for remote connectivity and tracking, showcasing efficient tracking and data sharing over long distances.
  2. Second Place - Team Virinchi

    • Project: Tidy Town
    • Technology: IoT-based application
    • Highlights: Enhances waste management and reduces pollution. Smart dustbins with sensors provide real-time data to the government and help users locate nearby dustbins.
  3. Third Place - Team Birendra

    • Project: Elderly Care Platform
    • Features: Easy booking of caregivers and medical professionals, accessible medical reports through a web app, and recreational activities for the elderly.

Impact and Significance

The IS Hackathon 2024 demonstrated the ingenuity and technical skills of Nepalese students. Projects ranged from code-intensive to low-code platforms, underscoring the potential for practical business implementations.
