Overview
eSewa is Nepal's first online payment service provider. eSewa, which launched the service from January 25, 2010, releasing a beta version in 2009, envisioning a cashless economy, claims to have reached every part of the country in a decade.
Over a decade, the number of directly opening accounts on eSewa has grown to about 3 million. Similarly, indirectly about 10 million of the people are receiving services through eSewa. Currently, eSewa has about 80 thousand agents (eSewa zones and points) across the country. So far the number of downloads of eSewa's mobile apps has reached nearly two million.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of eSewa Subhas Sapkota said that in the coming days, various services will be added to make life easier for the general public.
eSewa has brought many kinds of comfort to the remote areas of Nepal from the affluent areas. The common people have to remember eSewa for the first time. The company plans to move ahead and expand its services to reach every Nepalese in the coming days.
eSewa can pay the fees of more than 2,000 services including mobile, telephone, internet, electricity and drinking water tariffs, recharge, airplane, bus tickets, school college fees. eSewa currently has 49 bank and financial institution members. These funds can be easily deposited to eSewa and remittance from eSewa to a bank account.
eSewa's first official merchant is Buddha Air. Currently, all airline tickets including Buddha Air can be booked via eSewa. Every day, thousands of people flock to their destination via eSewa.
eSewa, which officially launched in 2010, was a product of F1Soft until 2012. Established in 2012 as a separate company. eSewa's brand color was changed from blue to green. eSewa, which has been on the agent model since 2013, reached 5,000 agents and one million customers in 2014. The number of merchants on eSewa has reached 80,000 today. In 2017, eSewa developed eSewa's service system through mobile applications, both Internet and SMS versions. In 2016, eSewa filed an application for a license with Nepal Rastra Bank with a policy of regulating the payment services of Nepal Rastra Bank. In 2017, eSewa obtained a license from Nepal Rastra Bank.
About a dozen companies are operating with eSewa under the F1Soft company, launched with the concept of three youths. The Group has now been able to provide employment to over one thousand skilled manpower.
