Overview
Melung Rural Municipality (मेलुङ गाउँपालिका, दोलखा) in the southern part of Dolakha district, known as a mountainous district under Bagmati Pradesh of Nepal, is an important place in terms of religion, culture, history, and tourism. This village full of natural beauty is not only rich in natural resources but is also known as a heritage of various castes and religious unity.
The name of this Melung rural municipality is derived from the name of the historical Melung Bazaar. According to legend, Lamaguru came from Tibet to search for a place to settle down. It is said that he stayed. From the Melung Gaupalika, the confluence of religious and natural beauty: Shailungdanda can be reached after crossing the footpath in about 5 hours and one can also easily observe the nearby Khimti Hydropower Project built as a model of hydropower development.
The former Melung, Bhedpu, Dandakharka, Ghyangsukathokar, and Pawati VDCs are comprised of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality in the east, Salung Rural Municipality and Ramechhap District in the west, Salung Rural Municipality in the north and Ramechhap District in the south. This Rural Municipality is divided into seven wards. Former Pawati VDC (1-9) has been shifted to Ward No. 1, Ghyang Sukathokar VDC. (1-4) to Ward No. 2, Ghyang Sukathokar VDC. (5-9) to Ward No. 3, Bhedpu VDC (1-9) to Ward No. 4, Dandakhark VDC (2-6,8) to Ward No. 5, Dandakhark VDC (1,7,9) and Melung (6,8,9) have been made Ward No. 6 and Melung (1-5,7) has been made Ward No. 7.
