Mayor's Scholarship Program for 132 Students in Rampur Municipality

Rampur Municipality in Palpa has been continuously running the 'Mayor's Scholarship' program for four years, and its effectiveness has been increasing.

Beneficiaries for the Current Year

This year, 132 students have benefited from the 'Mayor's Scholarship' program. The program aims to support the education of underprivileged, poor, and helpless children by providing scholarship funds. Mayor Raman Bahadur Thapa informed that the scholarship has been distributed to 132 students studying in 21 community schools and one campus in the municipality.

Scholarship Distribution

  • Total Amount Distributed: NPR 466,600
  • Beneficiaries:
    • General Category: 124 students
    • Technical and Science Category: 8 students

For the general category, two students each were selected from Balhit, Birendra, Kalika, Akala, Madarsa Nurulhoda Ahle Sunnat, BP Adarsha, and Shardasharan Primary Schools. Four students from Rampur Basic School, ten from Daraithati Secondary School, and fourteen from RamTulsi Model Secondary School were selected, according to Education Officer Bikal Kafle.

Specific Scholarship Amounts

  • Schools with Six Recipients (NPR 15,000 each): Ganga, Sita, Saraswati, Krishnadevi, Basic, Janbikas, Navdurga, Kalika, and Sitaram Secondary Schools.
  • Technical and Science Category:
    • Daraithati Secondary School: Two students received NPR 8,000 each.
    • Basic Secondary School and RamTulsi Model Secondary School: Three students each received NPR 12,000.

Additionally, 24 Dalit community students enrolled at Shahid Bahumukhi Campus, Rampur, received a total of NPR 216,600 for admission fees. According to Education Officer Kafle, the municipality awards scholarships based on the students' condition and numbers.

Program History

The program started in the fiscal year 2077/78. In its first year, the 'Mayor's Scholarship Fund' allocated a budget of NPR 500,000, distributing NPR 224,180 in scholarships.

Past Achievements

  • Last Fiscal Year: Four students each from Ganga Secondary School and Rampur Basic School, five each from Basic Secondary School and Daraithati Secondary School, six from RamTulsi Model Secondary School, ten from Navdurga Secondary School, and 33 from Shahid Bahumukhi Campus received scholarships.

Increasing Impact

Mayor Thapa stated that the 'Mayor's Scholarship' program is increasingly effective in the municipality. It supports poor, underprivileged, and helpless children who are forced to drop out due to financial issues.

"The scholarship distribution has boosted student enthusiasm. The municipality prioritizes educational initiatives to ensure no child is deprived of schooling due to financial constraints. Children are the foundation of the future, and the municipality is committed to both infrastructure development and child education."

Additional Support

The municipality, in coordination with other organizations, also runs programs for the protection of helpless children. Mayor Thapa mentioned that the municipality has a policy to provide free education up to the postgraduate level for children born after 2074 BS. Additionally, the municipality supports three abandoned children with NPR 20,000 each through the Child Rescue Fund.
