Ministry of Health and Population Initiates Efforts for Mutual Recognition of Nepal's Medical Education Abroad

Nepali medical students face difficulties as their postgraduate degrees are not recognized equivalently in India and other countries. To resolve this issue and create an environment for foreign students to study in Nepal with full fees, the Ministry of Health has initiated this effort.

Last month, during a program held in Indonesia, Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel was requested by the Indonesian Health Minister to facilitate postgraduate education. Following this, the ministry has begun its work. To ease the process of mutual recognition of medical education for students from SAARC countries, including the Maldives, and to manage quotas, the ministry has requested the Nepal Medical Council to submit a preliminary report within 30 days.

Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki stated that the Policy Planning and Monitoring Division of the ministry has communicated with the council to suggest necessary measures in the report. Currently, those who have completed postgraduate studies in countries like India can easily practice in Nepal, but those who have studied in Nepal face difficulties due to the lack of mutual recognition. It is believed that if mutual recognition at the SAARC level can be achieved, it would increase the attraction of foreign students to study in Nepal.
