NEB Announces Special Chance Exam for Grade 11 and 12 Students

The National Examination Board (NEB) has announced a special opportunity for students who failed Grade 11 and 12 since 2056 BS. This decision provides a final chance for these students to continue their academic journey.

Application Details

The NEB has issued a notice allowing partial and grade improvement examinees to fill out the exam application form. The deadline to submit the form is 2081 Mangsir 27. Controller Krishna Prasad Sharma confirmed that students registered between 2056 BS and 2077 BS are eligible to apply.

The following provisions apply:

  1. Students failing in any number of subjects can participate.

  2. Schools and campuses must collect and submit applications to the NEB.

  3. Even students with only practical subjects remaining can apply.

Estimated Eligible Students

According to the NEB, 1.4 million students have failed Grade 11 and 12 exams since 2056 BS, more than three current Grade 12 batches combined. The NEB will publish the exam schedule based on the number of applications received.

Exam System and Criteria

Students will be evaluated using their respective old syllabus and marking systems. Additional provisions include:

  1. Students can take exams for up to 200 full marks, with 100 marks per subject.

  2. Students from one faculty can opt for exams in subjects from another faculty.

Tribhuvan University Special Exam

Tribhuvan University (TU) students who have failed their undergraduate programs since 2058 BS are eligible to take the chance exam.

Tribhuvan University (TU) has also announced re-exams for:

  1. Students in the annual system since 2058 BS.

  2. Students in the semester system since 2069 BS.

This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Education Chief Khadga KC in early Asoj. Faculties included are Humanities, Education, Management, Law, and the Institute of Science and Technology.

Academic Integrity Measures

TU’s Exam Reform Committee has implemented strict guidelines to ensure exam integrity. If any exam malpractices, such as the use of AI, are detected, the exams will be canceled.

New Question Paper Format

TU also made a significant decision, announcing that undergraduate exams will now include question papers in Nepali and English.

Previously, questions were only prepared in English, which created challenges for many students. From this academic year, question papers in the first-year undergraduate exams will be available in both languages. This policy will gradually extend to second-, third, and fourth-year exams in subsequent years.

The move addresses concerns raised in parliament that language barriers were a significant factor in students failing their exams.

Conclusion

This special re-exam initiative by the NEB and TU provides a rare opportunity for students who previously failed their exams. It opens the door for them to rectify academic setbacks and educational progress.

Eligible students must submit their applications before the 2081 Mangsir 27 deadline. Schools, campuses, and institutions are encouraged to assist students in completing their forms on time. This initiative aims to benefit many students and create a fair academic system.
