Tanahun's Student Savings Program in Community Schools

Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality, Tanahun, has started depositing NPR 1,000 into the bank accounts of female students enrolled in community schools. This initiative aims to attract students to community schools while ensuring quality education. The campaign, launched under the slogan "Aanbukhaireni’s Commitment, Ensuring a Golden Future," focuses on opening student savings accounts.

The program's primary goal is to increase enrollment in community schools and instill a savings habit in female students from a young age.

Program Launch

According to the municipality’s fiscal policy for FY 2081–82, the initiative was inaugurated on Thursday at Ram Shah Secondary School. The rural municipality coordinated the program with Kumari Bank, targeting all students from community and institutional schools within its jurisdiction.

During the inauguration, Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality Chairperson Shukra Chuman highlighted the program's objectives, which include:

  1. Encouraging students to develop a habit of saving.

  2. Ensuring access to education and health facilities.

  3. Supporting access to higher education based on student’s interests and abilities.

  4. Promoting entrepreneurship to secure a brighter future for children.

Benefits for Female Students

Under this program, female students in community schools will have savings accounts opened in collaboration with Kumari Bank. The municipality will deposit NPR 1,000 per student into these accounts. In addition, Kumari Bank will provide benefits such as health insurance worth NPR 20,000 and other facilities as part of the savings account.

Nirmala Kunwar, Chief of the municipality's Education Division, emphasized that these initiatives aim to create a secure future for students while fostering financial discipline.

Budget and Implementation

The estimated initial budget for the program is NPR 2.5 million. The municipality has 35 community schools, and approximately 2,000 female students are currently enrolled.

To further improve the quality of education in community schools, the municipality has implemented the following measures:

  1. Mandating municipal representatives, employees, and teachers to enroll their children in community schools.

  2. Providing transportation facilities for schools.

  3. Offering health insurance and tax exemptions for parents enrolling their children in community schools.

This program reflects Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality's commitment to enhancing education and creating a brighter student future through financial support and quality improvements in community schools.
