Tribhuvan University Launches New Academic Programs Data Science and Actuarial Science in Bachelor Level
Tribhuvan University is introducing new educational programs to meet global market demands. Starting next academic session, undergraduate courses in Data Science and Actuarial Science will be available.
Institute Overview
The Institute of Science and Technology at Tribhuvan University has initiated these courses under the School of Mathematics. Program Coordinator Associate Professor Keshavraj Phulara highlighted that these courses are in high demand and offer attractive earning potential worldwide.
Program Objectives
- Actuarial Science: The main objective is to develop experts capable of creating policies for future risk management.
- Data Science: This program aims to produce skilled data analysts within Nepal.
Eligibility Criteria

General Requirements:
- Students must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination.
- For Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Commerce Mathematics must be a mandatory subject.
- A minimum of a C grade or a 1.8 GPA is required.

Targeted Admission:
- The National Examination Board will publish Class 12 results in the third week of Shrawan. The School of Mathematics invites applications from these students.
Program Details

Data Science:
- Open to all Class 12 graduates regardless of their stream.
- Plays a crucial role in data analysis for government and private companies, as well as the stock market, to identify trends and generate foreign currency.

Actuarial Science:
- Focuses on producing experts for insurance companies to prepare timely reports and comply with the NFRA system.
- Tribhuvan University has previously produced 82 actuaries, all of whom are employed and working in countries such as India, the USA, and the UK.
Course Fees and Quota
- Both Data Science and Actuarial Science courses span four years with a total fee of NPR 530,000.
- Each course has a quota of 40 seats.
- Admission will be merit-based, following the entrance exam results.
Scholarships
- Data Science:
- The eight-semester course costs NPR 530,600.
- Part of the fee is payable at admission, with the rest paid in installments at the beginning of each semester.
- Merit-based scholarships will be awarded to one outstanding male and one outstanding female student, and 10 percent of the total admitted students will receive full scholarships.
Admission Quota
- Of the 40 seats in the Data Science course, 80 percent (32 seats) are open, and 20 percent (8 seats) are reserved for inclusive quotas.
