45 Nepali Nurses Selected in the UK Health Sector

In a significant development for international healthcare employment, 45 Nepalese nurses have recently cleared interviews to work in the UK health sector. This achievement is a result of the collaborative efforts between Nepal and the UK, reflecting a growing trend in global health employment opportunities.

  • Interview Milestone: The interviews, held from November 18 to 21, were a crucial step in this process. Out of 71 shortlisted candidates, 60 attended the interviews at the British Embassy in Nepal.

  • Collaborative Process: The interviews were conducted by professionals from the Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), a notable entity chosen by the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). This face-to-face evaluation process highlights the rigorous standards and the quality of candidates.

  • Upcoming Steps: The Foreign Employment Department has announced that these successful nurses will soon be notified about their selection. They will receive guidance and essential information before starting their roles in the UK, with deployment expected from the first quarter of 2024.

  • Bilateral Agreement: This initiative stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in August 2022 between Nepal and the British government. The agreement aimed to provide job opportunities for Nepalese nurses in the UK. This pilot project initially sought applications for 100 nurses, attracting 82 applicants.

This development not only marks a significant opportunity for these skilled nurses but also strengthens the healthcare ties between Nepal and the UK. It opens doors for future collaborations and mutual growth in the healthcare sector.
