Regarding the Adjustment of Fare Rates for Passenger and Freight Vehicles Operating Inter-Provincially, Urgent Notice from the Department of Transport Management.
It is well-known that in the past, the fare rates for public vehicles were determined by assigning a 35% weight to fuel costs and a 65% weight to other indicators. Based on 13 key indicators, the fare rates were last adjusted on 2078/03/29 BS with the Nepal Government, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (Ministerial Level) agreement on 2078/03/27 BS. Subsequent adjustments were made whenever fuel prices fluctuated by 5% or more. The most recent adjustment occurred on 2080/04/31 BS.
The fare adjustment has been deemed necessary based on market studies, investment and expenditure analysis related to public transport operations, consultations with stakeholders, and the identification of increased costs in key indicators such as labor wages, fuel, tires, interest rates, operating costs, depreciation, and operational profits. The Nepal Government, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (Ministerial Level), approved this adjustment on 2081/09/11 BS.
The Department of Transport Management has adjusted the fare rates for public vehicles operating on national routes crossing two or more provinces, as per Clause 20 of Schedule 5 and Clause 15 of Schedule 9 of the Constitution of Nepal 2072, as well as Section 96 (1) and Section 153 (g) of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2049. These adjustments were decided on 2081/09/22 BS and came into effect immediately.
