Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Bidya Bhattarai has said that party influence within the university must be eliminated.

Speaking at the meeting of the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee held at Singha Durbar on Friday, Minister Bhattarai said this while discussing the Shaheed Dashrath Chand Health Sciences University Bill, 2080.

She said a bill should be introduced to end third-party influence and pressure within the university. She pointed out that a bill is necessary to determine what kind of university it will be now.

She said, “Why is the University Act autonomous? We can define its definition in many other acts as well. That is why we consider it autonomous. Now, what kind of university will it be? There are activities like that happening there, especially if I do not call them political; there are non-political activities. If we want to end those non-political activities, what is the status of the university? Let us explain what it should be in this act, which is not in this draft. I want to request the committee for that.’’

Education Minister Bhattarai said an act should be brought to end apolitical activities within the university. She said the committee can discuss it and move forward even if it is not in the current draft.

Minister Bhattarai said that ending apolitical activities within the university is necessary.
