Development of Community Multi-Purpose Library in Chhathar Jorpati, Dhankuta

A significant initiative is underway to construct a community multi-purpose library in Chhathar Jorpati, Dhankuta, aiming to enrich the educational and vocational landscape of the locality.

Investment and Partnerships:

  • The project is a collaborative effort between SVA Nepal Read Nepal and Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality.
  • SVA Nepal Read Nepal will invest Rs. 1 crore 62 lakh, while the Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality will contribute Rs. 50 lakh 29 thousand towards the construction.

Objectives and Programs:

  • Arjun Ghimire, chairman of the construction committee, envisions the library as more than just a repository of books. It will also serve as a platform for skill development and community empowerment.
  • Apart from housing books, the library will facilitate activities such as vegetable processing, homestays, and various skill-based programs to enhance professional and technical skills within the community.
  • The overarching goal is to enable 300 youths to become self-employed within three years of the library's operation.

Facilities and Features:

  • Read Nepal will provide support in managing the library for the initial three years.
  • After this period, the library will undergo further enhancements to become disability-friendly, featuring an audio-visual room, and designated spaces for women, children, and youth.
  • Different materials and resources will be available in each room to cater to specific needs and interests.
  • Separate halls for men and women will ensure inclusivity and convenience for all members of the community.
  • Five shutters will be installed to ensure the sustainable operation of the library.

Construction Progress:

  • Construction commenced in April 2023, and significant progress has been made, with 90 percent of the work already completed.
  • It is anticipated that the construction will conclude within the upcoming months, paving the way for the library's operational launch.
