Ministry of Education Building

The Government of Nepal, through its Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Education and Human Resource Development Center, is taking significant strides in enhancing the quality of education. A key focus is the development of foundational skills in young learners, particularly in reading and mathematics.

Targeted Support in Primary Education

  • Distribution of Learning Materials in Primary Schools: In an ambitious move, additional learning materials in reading and mathematics are being distributed to students in grades 1 to 3. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the foundation of education from the early stages.

Financial Backing for Educational Quality

  • Conditional Grants for School Education: In the fiscal year 2080/81, a substantial financial transfer has been allocated to local levels. This is part of a conditional grant under the school education scheme, specifically targeting the enhancement of educational quality and performance in schools.
  • Budget Allocation for Learning Materials: The program's implementation involves a meticulous allocation of funds. A total of 302 local levels, as identified in the IEMIS-2080 records, will benefit from this scheme. Each of these local levels, including the 102 highlighted in the program implementation manual, will receive Rs 9,000 per school. This budget is earmarked for the printing and distribution of additional learning materials.

Implementation and Impact

  • Focus on Reading and Mathematics: The emphasis is on providing at least one set of additional learning materials in reading and mathematics for students in classes 1 to 3. This decision aligns with the curriculum development guidelines and reflects a focused approach to enhancing early education.
  • Comprehensive Distribution Plan: Ensuring that each school receives the necessary resources, the program aims to distribute these learning materials to all eligible schools, thus impacting a significant number of young students across various districts.
