New Class IX Evaluation Guidelines by CDC for Nepalese Students:

The Curriculum Development Center (CDC) of Nepal has issued new letter grading guidelines, which require Class IX students to score a minimum of 35% in the annual exam to advance to higher classes. Here are some important details regarding the new system.

Implementation and Dilemma:

Initially, there was confusion about whether the guidelines for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) would be applicable to Class IX students. However, the guidelines will be gradually implemented in classes where the new curriculum is introduced, according to the chairman of the National Examination Board, Dr. Mahashram Sharma.

Evaluation System and Re-Examination:

Under the new evaluation system, students who score less than 35% will receive a non-graded result, meaning they have failed. However, such students will get up to three chances to take the chance examination. For those who receive non-graded results in up to two subjects, the school must immediately conduct an opportunity exam. If results do not improve, such students will become partial examinees for the regular exam conducted in March/April of the following year. If they fail again, they will have to study again from Class IX.

Letter Grading and SEE:

The new system categorizes students into A, A+, B, B+, C, C+, and D categories, with the D+ grade being removed and NG (non-graded) added. It is mandatory for Class IX students to submit their grade sheets to participate in the SEE. It has not yet been decided whether the new or old guidelines will be applied in publishing the results of the SEE candidates of 2079.

Overall, The new evaluation system for Class IX students in Nepal requires them to score at least 35% to advance to higher classes. Students who receive non-graded results will get up to three chances to take the chance examination. The new system uses letter grading and will be applicable for SEE participation, with NG replacing the D+ grade.
