The 'Padhai Kuna' initiative is transforming the reading habits of children in Bardiya, Nepal. The initiative involves creating a learning-friendly environment in homes to encourage children to read and study.

The Impact of 'Padhai Kuna':

Prakriti Tharu, a resident of Thakurbaba Municipality-2, Bardiya, has developed a habit of reading after making a 'Padhai Kuna' at home. A room has been dedicated to learning in her house, with educational materials hanging on the walls, and a designated place for paper, pen, and books.

Aisa Tharu, a resident of Geruwa Rural Municipality-5, Bardiya, has also developed a habit of studying in the 'Padhai Kuna' room. She finds it more enjoyable than studying at school and has become more interested in learning.

The Positive Impact of 'Padhai Kuna' on Parents and Teachers:

Dharmendra Tharu, the headmaster of Vijay Primary School located in BarBardiya Municipality-11, said that 'Padhai Kuna' has led to the development of regular homework and reading habits, as well as the safety of educational materials and personal hygiene. Children's interest in learning has increased, and their learning level has also improved.

Laxmi Prasad Sharma, head of the learning project, informed that 'Padhai Kuna' has been built in about 287 households in Bardiya. Under the learning project, the initiative has been introduced to economically disadvantaged Dalit communities, resulting in improved learning levels.

The Role of Plan International Nepal and Social Awareness Center (SAC) Nepal:

Plan International Nepal and SAC Nepal Banke have played a crucial role in making pre-primary classes a model for increasing educational quality, technology-friendly learning through ICT support, parent education, building physical infrastructure, and developing education policy, education plans, and local curriculum.
