It has said that the identified a potential vaccine to treat the coronavirus that will be tested on humans in September. It may also be available for emergency use in the early months of next year. The company said in a statement on Monday that the pharmaceutical company has signed an agreement with the biomedical advanced research and development authority of the US government, which will invest one billion dollars in the effort.
Johnson & Johnson started work on the AD26 SARS-COV-2 in January, which is still under investigation. The technology to develop potential vaccines for Ebola is being used for this vaccine.
"We had a number of potential vaccines that we tested on animals and we had to choose the best, it took 12 weeks from January 15 to the present day," company chief scientist Paul Stoffels said.
He said that we also had to assess which potential vaccines could be improved so that on one hand it can be ensured that on the other hand it can be worked out and on the other hand it can be used as much as possible.
Although to date there has not been a successful human vaccine for any virus belonging to the Coronavirus family, Stoffels is confident that he will achieve this feat.
