Kathmandu University Holds 29th Convocation, Initiates Over 1800 Students

Kathmandu, December 13, 2023 - Kathmandu University celebrated a significant academic milestone today, initiating 1,838 students during its 29th convocation ceremony. The event was graced by Prime Minister and University Chancellor Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', who presented certificates of initiation to the students.

Diverse Graduates Across Multiple Disciplines

The ceremony highlighted the academic diversity at Kathmandu University, with 18 doctoral graduates, including those from the School of Arts, Education, Medical Sciences, and Science. The graduates included PhD, DM, and MCH degree holders.

In addition, the university initiated 38 MPhil students, 314 postgraduate students, 52 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) students, and 1,416 undergraduate students in the first phase of the convocation.

Historic Firsts in Academic Programs

This year's convocation was particularly noteworthy for the introduction of new academic programs. For the first time, degrees were conferred in the Master of Technology in Artificial Intelligence, Master of Science in Midwifery Nursing, and Master in Higher Education programs.

Guests and Distinguished Speakers

The convocation was attended by senior doctor Dr. Gaurishankarlal Das as the chief guest. Education Science and Technology Minister and University Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar Rai, along with Education Science and Technology Minister Pramila Kumari, were also present.

In his address, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized his commitment to adjusting the national education policy, highlighting the need for reform and internationalization in Nepal's higher education sector. He stressed the importance of maintaining originality and achieving international standards in education.

Breakdown of Graduates by Discipline

University spokesperson Ekkumaya Pun detailed the breakdown of graduates across various disciplines, with a significant number from medical science, management, education, humanities, science, engineering, and law. The ceremony also marked the initiation of a large number of students in advanced and specialized programs.

International Representation

The convocation also saw the initiation of 113 foreign students from India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, underscoring the university's growing international appeal and diversity.
