Pokhara Metropolitan City to Add Special Facilities to Improve Public Education

Pokhara Metropolitan City has announced its decision to add special facilities to the principals of public schools for the improvement of education. The decision was made during the 17th meeting of the Municipal Corporation and will be implemented from the next academic session.

Facilities for Principals

According to the decision made public by Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, the executive committee will pay 25 rupees for the students' lunch and add 2000 rupees for the principal's service facility, 3000 rupees for the basic level, and 5000 rupees for the main facilities of the secondary school. This is a significant improvement for principals, who previously received only 500 rupees more than other teachers.

Education Reform and Management Program

The 17-point education reform and management program was approved by the 17th meeting of the city executive after taking into consideration recommendations from the education committee, education council, and other related bodies for education reform and management. The program also requires principals to submit a 4-year plan for school improvement and development. If the results are not achieved by the third quarter of the first year, the process of appointing a new principal will begin with a new plan for 4 years from the next academic session.

Admission and Enrollment

Students who want to study in the same school in class 11 must take admission if they have studied up to class 10. The Metropolitan Municipality has instructed all institutional and community schools to carry out an effective student enrollment campaign and begin regular classes from May 10, 2080.

Instruction for Schools

Institutional and community schools are directed by the Metropolitan Municipality to establish a sister relationship between nearby schools to improve educational quality. Additionally, no educational institution will be allowed to sell textbooks, school uniforms, and other educational materials within its school premises. School buses must be used to bring students only 1:30 hours before the start of school, and vehicles older than 20 years should not be used. The Metropolitan Corporation has instructed not to sell and distribute tobacco and alcohol products within 100 meters of the school area.

Other Decisions

The Metropolitan Municipality has also decided that new schools and Montessori cannot be operated without registration and permission, and existing schools and Montessori cannot add classes without permission. A high-level committee has been formed to submit a proposal regarding the school development program of community schools, and the report of the committee will be implemented from the next academic session.

To increase educational quality and make the educational sector within the metropolis practical and effective, Pokhara Metropolitan City has made several decisions. The city has divided into 7 clusters, and an education counselor will coordinate all community and private schools. The municipality will arrange for one nurse in each school soon, and schools with a very small number will be merged based on their needs. These decisions will lead to significant improvements in education in the metropolis.
