Government School in Nepal

Sarlahi district, located in Nepal, is facing a severe shortage of teaching staff in public schools. The situation is alarming as more than 5,000 teaching staff positions are vacant, affecting the quality of education in the region.

Teacher Shortage in Sarlahi

According to Sunil Kushwaha, the Technical Assistant of the Education Development and Coordination Unit in Sarlahi, out of the 478 public schools in the district, only 2,388 teachers are working, while 5,317 teacher positions remain vacant. Moreover, there are only 478 school assistants, 86 school support staff, and 186 private school teachers. The lack of teaching staff is causing the quality of education to deteriorate in most public schools in the region.

Urgent Need for Teachers

Kushwaha highlights that the district urgently requires 2,939 teachers to fill vacant positions in public schools. The lack of staff is preventing schools from providing quality education, and the situation is worsening due to a mismatch between the level of teachers, subject teachers, and the student-to-teacher ratio.

Impact on Community Schools

Sarlahi has 20 local levels, and each level has more than 10 public schools. Due to the declining quality of community schools, the number of students enrolling is decreasing. Some schools have a high number of students but a shortage of teachers, while others have teachers but no students.

Overall, The shortage of teaching staff in public schools is a serious issue that needs to be addressed urgently. The government should take necessary steps to recruit more teachers and provide quality education to students in Sarlahi district. Improving the quality of education can lead to better career opportunities and a brighter future for students in the region.
