Tanjakot Rural Municipality Unveils Locally Developed Curriculum

In an innovative move, the Tanjakot rural municipality Humla has launched a locally prepared educational syllabus in its schools. The course, crafted meticulously over a period of seven months, has been welcomed by the concerned authorities and is being utilized in classrooms.

Jayarudra Dhakal, the head of the rural municipality education branch, declared that 17 schools within the municipality had begun instruction based on the new curriculum from Friday. Despite the absence of physical textbooks, the curriculum has been digitally printed and distributed to all participating schools, assuring that the learning process is not disrupted. Physical copies will be available for schools and students in the near future.

'Hamro Tanjakot': A Comprehensive Local Curriculum

The new curriculum, named 'Hamro Tanjakot', encompasses six key areas of focus. These include:

  • Local Occupation
  • Business and Technology
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Social Values and Beliefs
  • Disaster Management and Environmental Awareness
  • Health, Sanitation, and Non-Timber Forest Production

The team started drafting the course in November and completed it by May, leveraging local insights and resources to ensure the curriculum is both informative and relatable.

The newly introduced curriculum is currently being taught to students from grades one to eight in 17 schools within the municipality. In total, it has impacted approximately 1800 students across all schools, opening a new chapter in their educational journey.

Promoting Local Knowledge through Education

Lalkesh Jaisi, the Village Chairman, strongly believes in the potential benefits of the newly prepared curriculum. He stated that it's a valuable resource that encapsulates the entire content about the village, thereby enhancing students' knowledge about their local community. By doing so, the municipality is promoting local awareness and pride, aligning with the principles of federalism.

The initiative has set Tanjakot Rural Municipality apart, making it the first among the seven districts in the region to develop and implement a local curriculum. This move is expected to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of their village from an early age, fostering local knowledge and pride.

By tapping into the potential of local education, the Tanjakot rural municipality has taken a significant step towards shaping a future generation that is deeply connected with its roots. This initiative marks a promising move in the field of education, bringing a local touch to the learning process and making it more engaging and relevant for students.
