Warm Welcome of Mountaineer Nirmal Purja in Kathmandu

Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, who made a new record of climbing 14 mountains over eight thousand meters, has been welcomed at the airport.

Nirmal and his teammates Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, Galjean Sherpa and Jessmann Tamang, who arrived at the airport on Wednesday from Syabrubesi in Ruswa, were welcomed with the band Baja of Panchebaja and Nepal Police.

Nepali climber Purja made a record of completing 14 mountain climbs over 8,000 meters in seven months, setting foot on the peak of Sisapangma at 8:58 pm local time on Tuesday morning after China granted a 'special permit'.

Purja had launched the project 'Project Possible' on April 23 with Annapurna's ascent. On the 22nd of May as the fourth mountain climbed the world's highest summit, he climbed 11 mountains within 90 days. He set the record for climbing Lhotse, Makalu and Everest within 48 hours. He set foot on the 13th of this expedition on the summit of Manaslu on September 27th.

Nirmal arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday after reaching the summit of the Himalayas in China's 14 mountain ranges. Purja, who served in the British Army, began his career in rock climbing from 2012. The record he holds earlier was in the name of Georgie Kuczka of Poland.

The BBC reports that Queen Elizabeth was granted an MBE in 2018 by the British Army in 2003.
