Stitches of Kindness: A Warm Gesture in the Winter Chill
As winter embraces Nepal with its cold, biting winds, the Hult Prize at Kathmandu University is stepping up to spread warmth and kindness through its heartwarming initiative, Stitches of Kindness. This warm cloth donation program, which will run from December 20 to 26, aims to turn unused clothing into a source of comfort for those in need.
The program's essence lies in its simple yet impactful message: "Your unused clothes can bring warmth to someone in need." The team has placed donation boxes across Kathmandu University’s premises to make participation convenient, including cafes, stores, and the boys' and girls' hostels. These locations ensure maximum accessibility for students and faculty to contribute to this noble cause.
Once collected, the donations are handed over to the Sukhawati Foundation, a charitable thrift store in Nepal. The foundation sells donated clothes at prices ranging from as low as Rs. 10 to Rs. 300, ensuring affordability for underprivileged individuals who cannot meet the high costs of essential items. Additionally, The revenue generated by Sukhawati Foundation through these sales is directed towards various charitable activities, amplifying the reach and significance of the donations. By participating in this program, contributors help individuals stay warm during winter and support a cycle of giving that benefits multiple lives.
This project is a perfect example of how modest deeds of kindness can significantly impact society. It serves as a reminder that everyone can have an impact, particularly in the winter when warmth is a valuable commodity. Together, we can help Kathmandu University's Hult Prize team make Stitches of Kindness a success. Nothing feels better than spreading compassion, after all.
